Our Program
Campers build their own activity schedules. There are four class periods a day: one period is designated for an instructional swim and the other three activities reflect each girl’s preferences.
Archery
Under the supervision of a trained archery counselor, campers learn basic archery skills, understand the importance of safety and have the opportunity to perfect their shooting skills from different distances. Campers have the opportunity to compete in inter-camp competitions.
Arts
Using nature as inspiration, campers learn and practice sketching with pastels and charcoal focusing on shading, perspective, and lines.
Canoe
Campers learn lake paddling skills and boat safety. A canoe trip is offered to 13-15 year olds.
Ceramics
Beginners learn clay building and glazing and have the opportunity to fire their projects in a kiln. More advanced campers can throw pots on one of the two ceramic wheels.
Following a weekly theme, campers create projects from basic jewelry to clothespin dolls.
Campers learn a choreographed routine to popular music and perform it at the end of every two-week session.
Diving
Campers learn basic diving skills including front dives, back dives and somersaults for more advanced divers.
This is an opportunity for campers to gather in the soccer field and play group sports including ultimate Frisbee, soccer, whiffle ball, volleyball and other favorites.
Horseback Riding*
Campers travel with a Fleur de Lis staff member trained in CPR and First Aid to a local stable approximately 20 minutes from camp. Under the guidance of well experienced staff, campers learn about stable life, the care of horses, and work to develop the needed trust between horse and rider. A beginner to intermediate program, campers learn within a ring to mount and dismount, walk, steer, and trot. Campers can ride 1-2 times per week. *This program has an additional cost and space is limited.
Kayak
Fleur de Lis has nine kayaks; girls learn lake kayaking skills and water safety.
Knitting and Sewing
Campers enjoy knitting hats and scarves. They learn basic knitting skills. Currently only offered as a Saturday program, sewing has become quite popular. Campers learn to thread and work electric sewing machine to create pillows, bags, and other crafts.
Nature
Fleur de Lis covers 36 acres of wooded land and open fields and has extensive waterfront on Laurel Lake. This provides an opportunity for campers to explore the world around them and to learn ways to preserve the wonderful things nature offers us.
Riflery
Trained staff teach campers gun safety, breathing techniques, and the concentration needed to progress through the awards of a nationally recognized organization. Seniors may compete on the Fleur de Lis Rifle Team.
Row boating
Fleur de Lis has three rowboats that allow campers to learn oarsmanship and small craft safety.
Sailing
Campers learn to sail on sunfish as a team and solo. More advances sailors learn to sail a JY with a main sail and a jib. There are also two motorboats used for safety and instruction.
This is the one required activity for all Fleur de Lis campers. Campers participate in swim classes five days a week. These classes are instructed by certified Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguards. Campers work through Red Cross Levels 1-6 skills as well as participate in additional water safety instruction. Older campers have the opportunity to take American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue and Lifeguard Training (including CPR for the Professional Rescuer).
Tennis
The three clay tennis courts and ball machines are available for instructional use as well as during camper free time.
Campers participate in classes that focus on short skits and improvisation. Six productions are put on a summer: two each by the Junior, Mid, and Seniors Units. Girls participate in all aspects of the production including acting, singing, choreographing numbers, props, and backdrop development.
Waterskiing
Campers who are in Level 6 swimming have the opportunity to learn to water ski. Girls progress from two skis, to dropping a ski, to getting up on one ski. Instructors all have ARC Lifeguard Training and a NH commercial boat license.
Additional Programs
Evening Program
Each evening after supper, our counselor staff offer activities for campers. Depending on the evening some activities are done in units and others may be a camp-wide activity. These activities include evening swim, air bands/karaoke, skit night, scavenger hunts, and campfires.
Special Days
Wednesday and Sundays are reserved for a break from the regular schedule. These days are typically all camp activities such as Capture the Flag or an FdL Carnival. Throughout the summer campers may sign up on these days to climb nearby Mt. Monadnock or participate in a special canoe trip around the lake.
Trip
Juniors and Mids have the opportunity to have an overnight camping experience that focuses on setting up a tent, building a fire and cooking over it. Mids travel to local state parks or canoe across the lake while Juniors enjoy their trip within the camp property. Seniors have specialized one night trips including canoeing on the Connecticut River, rock climbing, sea kayaking, and white water rafting.
Birthdays
During July and August a camp-wide birthday party celebrates those girls who have birthdays during the summer season. Presents, songs, cake, and a play make this night special.
Campfire Night
At the end of each four week session, girls attend a special banquet dinner, the Senior Play, and the awards campfire. Individual girls are recognized for their accomplishments and special Fleur de Lis campfire songs are sung.
