Carrie Kashawlic comes to Fleur de Lis with a long camping history starting as a camper, counselor in training, staff member and camp director. Her experience is in both all-girls environments as well as at co-ed camps and spans four states.
As an active member of the American Camp Association (ACA) since 1995 she serves as a Lead Visitor visiting accredited camps to ensure the standards of excellence in camping are met. She continues to volunteer with the ACA and the American Red Cross as an instructor among other community roles.
Carrie holds a bachelor degree in Communications from Ohio Northern University and an International MBA from Baldwin Wallace College. Most recently Carrie worked for the Girl Scouts. Her background also includes working at the university level and living abroad as a Professor of World History in Colombia, South America.
International travel and eco-tourism is a favorite past time of Carrie’s. She has traveled in more than 20 countries, speaks three languages: English, Spanish and German and is a certified instructor of English as a foreign language.
Carrie is passionate about youth development and the safe, fun environment of camp for girls to learn, explore and grow. Camp provides an environment for girls to explore their values, test their boundaries in a nurturing environment, make life-long friends and discover their unique gifts.
Our administrative staff is made up of professionals in the fields of education and social work. Most of them were campers and/or counselors at Fleur de Lis. They work with all of the campers, staff and counselors-in-training to ensure the best summer experience for everyone. While the administrative staff at many camps focus almost exclusively on administrative responsibilities, our admin team is an active part of the daily program: teaching classes, leading activities and spending time with all campers. This interaction with campers is a priority for us at Fleur de Lis.
We are very proud of our field staff at Fleur de Lis. These counselors are the women who campers look up to, emulate and turn to for support and nurturing. They are well trained both in their roles as counselors and as experts in the activities they teach. Fleur de Lis is proud that the staff provides our community with a 1:4 ratio of staff to campers. The average age of our field staff is 20. Most of them were campers at Fleur de Lis and have completed our two-year Counselor-In-Training program. Each year about 20% of our staff come to us from other countries including England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The remainder of our staff come from throughout the United States.
Fleur de Lis has a Registered Nurse in residence all summer and a doctor on call at all times. All staff are certified in CPR and basic First Aid.
