Lady Nurse Service

Greetings, Fleur de Lis Camp community! Spring is upon us— the lilacs are in bloom, the ducks have returned to the lake, and the sun chooses to grace us more and more with its presence.

Just the other day, MJ and I sat down to discuss how we would observe the time honored tradition of Lady Nurse Day this year. After some brainstorming, we thought why not encourage our community to observe the day in their own homes and communities? Thus, spreading the spirit of civil service and kindness beyond the confines of camp itself.

And so, it is with great excitement that we invite you to participate in Lady Nurse Service. For the entirety of the next month, we encourage you to gather with friends and family and find a creative way to contribute to bettering your community and lending a helping hand. Some ideas of ways you can contribute include:

  • Collect trash on a beach or in a park and dispose of it appropriately.

  • Volunteer with a food shelter or collect non-perishable food donations for a food bank.

  • Donate hygienic supplies to a homeless shelter.

  • Raise awareness of or funds for a charity that you feel passionate about.

  • Volunteer at an animal shelter/rescue organization.

  • Volunteer at a school or library.

  • Plant a pollinator garden.

  • Volunteer at a retirement community or help your elders with a home project.

  • Collect book donations for children and families in your community.

  • Spring cleaning? Donate unwanted items in good condition to a women's shelter or Habitat for Humanity project in lieu of throwing them out or bringing them to a Salvation Army, Savers, Goodwill, etc.

These are just a handful of ways in which you can give back to the community you live in!

Once you have engaged in an act of community service/kindness, we would love to hear from you! Please, send pictures and testaments to: The week before camp we will report back, sharing all the compassionate work our community has done.

Cheers to making the world a better place.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,

Assistant Director Fleur de Lis Camp
