The password for today is Take a chance on camp.
If you told me 3 years ago that today I’d be doing a Password, I would have thought you were crazy. I was just like many of you- being at camp for the first time, feeling overwhelmed and completely out of my comfort zone. I remember how awkward I felt participating in Evening Circle for the first time, and constantly reminding myself to say “Lady Grace” at my first table. It’s challenging to be immersed in a group of people that have been friends for almost a decade. No one mentioned that putting Surf as my number 1 choice as a second-year senior wasn’t a normal thing to do, or that Senior Prank generally doesn’t include wild animals. To give you another example of how clueless I was, I packed a full-on wetsuit to camp.
Still, despite these setbacks, that summer I found the place where I’d end up finding my best friends, my role models, and the people I know I can always count on through thick and thin. For you new campers, give camp a chance and keep an open mind. Life truly does begin in the moments where you feel overwhelmed and out of your comfort zone. Accept the challenges, face your fears, and learn to love what scares you- who know, you may surprise yourselves in a few years when you do your first Password.
